About The Director
Barbara Yurick is the Director Dance-It! Oak Hill Dance Center in Oak Hill, WV. She has served as Master Ballet Teacher for The West Virginia Governor’s School for the Arts for five years, and served on the Dance Faculty at West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV for five and a half years. She teaches in studios, arts camps, ArtistIn-Residence programs, public and private schools, and college and university settings throughout West Virginia, and as far away as Maine.
Barbara was an original member and contributing choreographer with The West Virginia Dance Company, the only professional touring company in West Virginia. She performed ballet, jazz, and modern dance touring the Mid-Atlantic Region under the direction of Toneta Akers-Toler. Barbara also performed with Theatre West Virginia at Grandview National Park as a dancer. Barbara has served as a Modern Dance Instructor and Artist-In-Residence for Mountain State University in Beckley, WV for The Pearl Buck Project.
Yurick has served the arts in many capacities. She served on The Arts Team for The Regional Education Service Agency in area I, focusing on providing Arts In Education programs in WV public schools. She developed and presents “Children For Children”, an integrated arts program focusing on reading comprehension for early elementary students. She has been a Dance Consultant for The WV Department of Education’s Elementary Dance Pilot for two years.
She hold a B.S. Degree from WVU, studied dance at North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem, received dance scholarships to The Craft of Choreography Conferences SUNY, Brockport, NY and Geneva, NY. She has studied at various professional schools throughout the United States, Canada and France. She continues to study dance,
education and the connections between all of the arts and human growth, development and communication and understanding.
